About the Artist
ARTIST STATEMENT
Inspired by the breathtaking beauty of the natural world, I create my images using a variety of printmaking methods, often combined with drawing and painting. I focus on the flora and fauna in my surroundings, observing and delighting in their habitats and habits. It is the deep respect I feel for our fragile environment that I wish to share with and encourage in others.
My earlier work provided an opportunity to stop, look closely, and explore the depths of each multi-layered and detailed picture. I developed a uniquely complex process that combined a variety of printmaking methods with photography and painting. Now using the block print process, the work is necessarily becoming more bold and graphic. I still rely on my observational skills to capture my subjects.
BIO
For as long as I can remember I have been making things with my hands and creating images. This was my way to connect with the world and discover myself. My high school art experience inspired the pursuit of art education at the college level and I received my B.S. in Art Education from S.U.College at Buffalo in January 1975. After college I worked in a gallery as a picture framer and taught adult art classes while continuing to produce my own work.
After taking several years off to start a family, I returned to Art by developing and teaching Creative Art Workshops, my own program for children and adults. I also taught Art in two private schools in the local area. Leaving teaching after twenty plus years, I now pursue Art-making as my primary profession.
EXHIBITION HISTORY
My work has been exhibited in many places throughout the area and is in several private collections. I am a founding member of ArtEast and annually participate in the Open Studio Tour in October welcoming the public into my home studio in Pawling, NY. I was one of the artists exhibiting at the Howland Cultural Center in the Women@Work show in both March 2011 and 2008. One of my pieces was accepted into ‘Contemporary Confrontations’, a juried exhibition at the Katonah Museum of Art in 2009. I was also a featured artist in the 2009 ‘Art in the Loft’ series at the Millbrook Winery in Millbrook, NY. I continue to participate in numerous group shows including the annual ‘Meeting Past’ exhibits at the Akin Library and Museums in Pawling, NY, as well as an artisan booth at the Pawling Farmer’s Market. My first solo show opens in June 2015 at the Beekman Library. I continue to work in my home studio.
